What is a Veterinary Specialist?

RCVS and European Recognised Specialist status is the highest level of clinical specialisation that it is possible to achieve in Veterinary Neurology, and requires advanced clinical training and regular demonstration of continued activity of a high standard within the speciality. Jacques Penderis is recognised as a Specialist in Veterinary Neurology by both the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation.

On-site Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and CT scanning

On-site high-field MRI is provided in conjunction with Burgess Diagnostics, a leading and highly experienced provider of Veterinary MRI provision. All MRI scans are performed using cutting-edge technology with high-field MRI scanners. You can be confident that if your pet requires an MRI scan that it will be performed using the latest equipment and by highly trained and experienced radiographers with extensive veterinary experience. In addition to MRI we offer CT scanning and advanced radiography.

Not everyone has been in an MRI suite and as it is a vital diagnostic tool in the investigation of brain and spinal dysfunction we thought we’d post a little tour around the MRI truck which aids Jacques in the diagnostic process for your pets.

The top left picture shows the magnet room, there is no metal allowed in this room due to the powerful magnetic forces produced by MRI unit.

Here the patient is placed on the table under anaesthesia and positioned accordingly by the diagnostic imager, once positioned the patient is carefully placed into the bore of the unit by the mobile table while being monitored by the veterinary nurse using the equipment in the top right picture.

The other pictures show the external areas of the truck including the lift and vehicle which brings it to us twice a week.

Jacques examines every slice of the image taken in numerous different planes to give him a 3D outlook of what is happening within the brain or spinal cord and where. This assists him in identifying where exactly the issue is so he can pin point the problem area during a surgical procedure.
